Before moving ahead to IP Address, lets first talk about what stands for IP
IP > means Internet Protocol, which means a set of rules, terms or protocols which help you to have access to the Internet.
Now when you understand word IP, so IP Address is Address to Internet Protocol.
Need for IP Address
For example, you want to send an mail to your Friend, what will you do?
you’ll write a letter, place it under an Envalop, write Address where you want to send that Mail and send that.
Simple as that!
and the same as above when you want to send/receive a message while chatting online, email, or even while accessing Browsing Internet.
YOU NEED AN ADDRESS
Without a specified location, the Internet will never understand which content needs to be sent to whom!
no matter you’re using a computer, laptop or mobile! whenever you’re using the internet for any of your requirements you HAVE a specific IP ADDRESS.
Even this time when you’re reading this BLOG on the Internet you have an IP Address.
Types of IP Address
- Dynamic IP Address
- Static IP Address
Dynamic IP Address: it’s a randomly generated address by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to provide you access to the internet no matter you’re using the internet on a computer/laptop or mobile.
whenever you’re working on the internet provided by your Internet Service Provider they generate a specific address for your Computer/Laptop or Mobile etc. Each ISP have their specific range of Ip Addresses and they can provide randomly and unique Ip Address for you from that range only!
Static Ip Address: Whenever you’re accessing any Web Site using your Device, for example, Frequent Technology or Google
they have a specific name that is placed on a Specific Address.
I will say the Domain name is a user-friendly address that points to an actual address and that is called a Static IP Address.
for a practical example, please check my video on same topic on Youtube: IP Address, What is an IP Address, Static and Dynamic IP Address, Formation of IPV4 and IPV6
Versions of IP Address
- IPV4 (Internet Protocol Version 4)
- IPV6 (Internet Protocol Version 6)
It’s four Numeric values of 3 characters with separation by a period (.)
The numeric value of Ip address can be any number from the range of 0 to 255.
0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
it’s also called as 32 bit IP Address to understand more on this, please check deep explanation on this please check video tutorial on same topic: Ip Address
we moved from 32bit to 128bit IP Address by this upgrade and we were in need of this because IPV6 can store multiple nodes in the single IP address which increases flexibility and efficiency of accessing the internet.
Formation of IPV6:
while converting this whole address to binary languages, as we know computers only understand binary language which is true/false or 0/1 only. while converting this address to binary it takes 128 bits of data this is why it’s called 128-bit version of IP address as well.
